Baxter was found along the side of a county road. He had been hit by a car and was in need of medical attention. Baxter was estimated to be 20lbs underweight and was filthy. Due to stray hold regulations nothing was able to be done to him until the hold time was released. Baxter sat in the shelter for a week waiting for someone to come for him, but no one ever showed up. When his time was up, CCHS took him into their adoption program and brought him to the vet immediately. Luckily for Baxter it was discovered that he had no broken bones but he did have a deep tissue bruise and will be on pain meds for the next couple weeks. He also tested strong positive for heartworms and has undergone treatment. Heartworms are an easily preventable disease that is transmitted from a single mosquito bite. By keep your pet on monthly HW prev, it will prevent this deadly disease from spreading and killing your beloved pet. Baxter is on the road to recovery and is now safe and sound in the CCHS adoption program. He is great w/ dogs, cats and kids of all shapes and sizes. He is neutered, current on vaccinations and microchipped. UPDATE: Baxter began showing signs of distemper on April 5th, 2010. He was rushed to the vet and pumped w/ fluids and meds. The tremors and seizures progressed as the week went on. It was decided that he was suffering and has irreversible brain damage. The vet recommended euthanasia to end the pain he was in. On April 15, Baxter was humanely put to sleep. |
